Uses However, Yet, Already in English, Definition and Example Sentences

Already

Already means that something happened earlier than we expected.

Example Sentences

  • He has already done the shopping , he is watching T.V now.
  • I have finished the exam already.
  • They have called the police already.
  • We are already sleeping.
  • He can already read this book.

 



Yet

Yet means that something that we expected has happened or hasn’t happened. We usually put it at the end of a sentence.

Example Sentences

  • Michael has bought a new dress but she hasn’t worn it yet.
  • He hasn’t watered the flowers yet.
  • It hasn’t been decided yet.
  • We haven’t been able to solve the problem yet.
  • She won’t have sent the email yet.
  • Is lunch ready yet?

 

However

We can express a contrast by using the adverb however with two sentences.  It is always followed by a comma.

Example Sentences

  • He was feeling very ill. However, he went to work.
  • Some people disagree with this theory, however, it’s never been proven right.
  • The weather was sunny; however, we didn’t go outside.
  • Tom works a lot, but  however  he hasn’t any money.
